Industrial Dynamics and Strategy - IDS

The Industrial Dynamics and Strategy (IDS) research group comprises competences in the adjunct disciplines of Industrial dynamics, Science and Technology Studies (STS), and Technology foresight. The research focusses on understanding change and change processes of industrial sectors and wider innovation systems with private and public actors. Empirically, the group has a stronghold in the sectors of energy and cleantech. The users of the research are typically industrial sectors and their associations, sectoral and regional authorities but also individual national and international organizations.

 

Methodologically, the research is based on classic methods such as case studies, surveys & questionnaires, experiments and statistical analyses. Furthermore, the group has a strength in foresight methods such as scenarios, Delphi etc. The group publishes in journals such as Technology Forecasting and Social Change, Futures, Scientometrics, Industrial and Corporate Change, Industry and Innovation, Journal of Economic Geography, Journal of Cleaner Production, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews. The group presents its research at conferences affiliated with DRUID, EU-SPRI, Globelics, AoM and 4S (Society for Social Studies of Science).

 

In addition, the IDS group includes DTU’s research in Ethics and Theory of Science focusing on analytical ethics and formal modelling. The research falls under two domains: robot and machine ethics and bioethics and food ethics. The results are published in journals like Ethics and Information Technology, Journal Moral Philosophy and Trends in Plant Science.

 

The group is successful in attracting external funding from public Danish, Nordic and European foundations in cooperation with Danish and European partners.

 

We contribute to teaching in courses such as Decision support for engineers, Strategy & planning methods, Strategic differentiation, Engineering work (SAS Bachelor), Theory of science in engineering and Sustainability in Management. Most of the courses are Affiliated with the Bachelor program in Strategic Analysis & Systems Design and the Master program in Industrial Engineering and Management.

  • Stakeholder perspectives and conflicts in socio-technical change processes

  • Robot and machine ethics and bioethics and food ethics
